Nancy Hoover is a lifelong artist and a long-time resident of Austin, Texas. Her art has appeared in galleries locally and nationally, including the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC, as well as in personal collections.

She expresses herself through her Art, working in multiple mediums including painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.

She has received local and national awards, most recently having been awarded the City of Austin’s People’s Choice Art Award in 2019.

Her paintings speak for themselves in a number of different mediums, and their color and vibrancy evoke dreams and reality – the dance between laughter and tears.  She is an administer and contributor for two international self-portrait forums.  In 2021 her work was selected to be included in the book The Heart of Drawing: Stories and Images from Around the World, a collection of artworks by artists and their stories from around the world.

As an Artist who is committed to the importance of our young people as the architects of our future, Nancy also continues to be a contributing artist for children’s books (her own book is in development) and has illustrated several books.

She recently retired after 20 years as the Art Director for The Girls’ School of Austin. During that time, she developed a nationally recognized Art program and taught Art to 150 students each year (Kindergarten-8th grade); her Middle School students earned numerous awards for their artwork including 2 American Vision Awards and 14 National Scholastic Art Gold Key Awards.  Nancy was named the Middle School Art Teacher of the Year by Scholastic in 2013.

An important part of her Art program has always been to combine Art and Art History, discussing well-known Artists, their history and time in the world, and their Art, as well as how they create their artwork (e.g., Johannes Vermeer, Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Alice Neel, Amy Sherald, and others).

While not working on her own Art, she conducts private art lessons and mentors students who hope to enter fine arts programs at both the high school and college level, helping them develop their artistic skills and art portfolios; entries to National competitions through Hoover Portfolio Studio.

Nancy earned a BFA degree from the College of Charleston and has completed graduate work in Art at the University of Georgia and the University of Central Florida.
